Mini Brown-Bag Ruby Workshop for Women

Hi there! This event is an introduction to Ruby. We will go over basic primitive data types such as strings and booleans, talk about composite data types such as arrays and hashes, and explain how to reference specific types using variables! If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then this is the event for you!

We'll start with an overview of Ruby at 11:30 A.M.(Come by at 11 to get situated!), have a quick lunch break at 12:30, talk a bit about terminal and the command line at 1:00, and then get into groups at 1:15 to work through examples of Ruby using Chris Pine's Learn to Program as well as tougher challenges if your particular group is up for it! At 3:00, we'll come back together to explain Ruby Koans and how to use them as a tool for self-study on Ruby. There will be a 30 minute open forum for any questions at the very end. (Ask about next steps in learning Ruby!)

There isn't any free parking near the area, so please try and take the Bart to Montgomery. It's about a 7 minute walk from the Bart station to the entrance of DBC. We'll have some people directing until 11:30 A.M. so please be on time!

Food and Drinks

Please bring your own food and drinks! There is a microwave at DBC, but it may or may not be broken...There is also a Subway 3 minutes away from the DBC campus. UPDATE! Pizza will be available but bring own snacks...

Childcare

No childcare at this time...sorry.

Note!

If you do plan on coming, please try to stay for the day. We are putting alot of time and effort into this event and would love for you to get the most out of it.
