RailsBridge San Francisco is looking for a new leadership team! Lillie Chilen, Rachel Myers, and Sarah Mei are recruiting three new people to manage the workshop planning process and help workshop organizers do their thing. (The positions don't necessarily require RailsBridge organizing experience, so don't count yourself out if you're a student or a new volunteer.)

If you’re even just a little curious about it, please come hang out with us and chat about RailsBridge SF :D

We'll be having pizza & soda (or pop) for dinner.

What is the RailsBridge SF leadership team?

The team works closely together to keep workshops planned and supported in San Francisco. Each person on the team has an initial 3-month term. The leadership team will have lots of support and mentorship from the RailsBridge Board.

What roles are available on the team?

The leadership team is led by the Chapter Lead, who manages the calendar and helps recruit workshop organizers and venues. The Chapter Lead helps support the Venue Manager and the Organizer Manager, who focus respectively on communicating with and supporting the venues and organizers of individual workshops.

What are the qualifications for the positions?

We’re looking for people who have been to a workshop or two and are ready to get more involved with RailsBridge. You don’t have to be a RailsBridge expert to join the leadership team; we hope that the leadership team will figure out new and better ways to make workshops happen.

These roles will all involve a fair amount of email, so being a proactive communicator would be a mighty fine trait for any of the roles. You’ll also be working with a lot of different people, so a decent degree of empathy is helpful.

If I’m learning to code, would this be a worthwhile use of my time?

These positions are awesome for people who are just getting started with software development — two of our former leads became full-time developers while leading the SF RailsBridge chapter, and the connections they made through RailsBridge were really key to their professional success.

What’s the time commitment?

The team should probably meet in person for a couple of hours once a month, and plan on working 2-3 hours per week, mostly coordinating things online (via email and GitHub issues).

We’re filling these position for 3-month terms, so no one is signing up to lead the SF RailsBridge chapter forever! If you’re having a really grand time after 3 months, we can discuss extending your term.

Can I help with other stuff that’s not one of these three positions?

Sure! The leadership team is the current highest priority, and they’ll be involved with setting the next set of goals for the SF chapter. But we always love hearing awesome ideas that you want to make happen!

I'm not a woman. Can I be on the leadership team?

Yes!!! People of all genders are wanted on the leadership team. Check out this blog post about organizing as a dude if you need more convincing.

25 volunteers!
