This is a Front End workshop. The focus will be on designing web apps with HTML and CSS. You can find all the curriculum materials at docs.railsbridge.org/frontend.
You don't need to know anything at all about programming in order to get something out of this class - just curiosity, a willingness to ask questions and try something new, and a laptop!
RailsBridge's mission is to increase diversity in tech and bring technology education to under-served communities. With that in mind, we'd love it if you could help us by reaching out to organizations who serve those communities and let them know about RailsBridge. Technology is a rare field where you can be successful without having a college degree, and where all the resources to be a professional are available for free online. We'd especially love to help out at-risk youth (or the educators and folks in non-profits who support them), teachers and anyone else who might not otherwise see technology as a career option (because, again, all the resources are available for free online).
We're trying something different this time, and if you're not in one of those groups, we'd like you to bring an educator, an at-risk youth, or someone from a non-profit focused on poverty or youth outreach who would benefit from RailsBridge, with you if you're planning on attending.
This is a Front End workshop, so the only thing you need is a text editor and the web browser you already use! So, some time before the workshop, please download one of the text editors below and get it installed. If you have trouble, don't worry! We'll help you out the day of!
And if you sign up but don't get the confirmation email, check your spam folder!
We've "sold out" all of our events so far only to have people not show up or cancel at the very last minute. That makes it really hard on the folks on the waitlist who don't get bumped up until the last minute and can't make it and means we can't get everyone in who wants to attend. We work really hard to put these events on and we'd love it if the people who sign up show up, or at least cancel with enough notice that folks on the wait list have enough notice to make it.
You'll need the following things to be able to successfully participate in RailsBridge:
A huge thank you to our sponsors who are giving of both their money and time to make this event free for everybody!
There's plenty of parking at the Creators Foundry!
Curious about what RailsBridge looks like? Check out some photos from our last event.
We'll have breakfast, lunch and snacks on Saturday, so come with both an appetite for learning and one for food!
We won't be able to provide childcare for RailsBridge, but we welcome anyone who's interested in learning! We've had kids as young as 9 show up and learn something!
If you're bringing your child, please plan on staying with them, as we can't be responsible for your kid.
