Workshop Description

This workshop is intended to reach out to women and non-binary people whom are interested in learning web development!

In this workshop, we'll take you through the process of building a complete web application using Ruby on Rails. By the end of the day, you'll have an application that connects to a database, reads and writes data, and renders html in a browser. If you've never attended a RailsBridge event or used Rails before, please come to the Friday night Installfest. We'll meet up Friday to install all of the software you need, and then spend Saturday learning and writing code. Programmers of all skill levels are welcome and students will be delineated into different classes based on the experience level you choose when you sign up.

Sponsors

Dev Bootcamp, the original coding bootcamp, is generously providing us with space to use and sustenance to keep our caffeine and blood-sugar levels in the safe zone.

Transportation and Parking

The closest BART stop is Montgomery. It is about half a mile from DBC. Walk away from Market (southeast) on 2nd street and take a right onto Folsom. Dev Bootcamp is the red building on the left. When you arrive, look for someone who looks like they're looking for you, and say "RailsBridge?". If the response is "Welcome!", you've found the right person. If the response is confusion, look around for someone else :)
Street parking is available, but city parking is fairly scarce; public transportation is recommended. There is also a bike rack right in front of the building. However there is no secure bike parking. So lock it up good!

Food and Drinks

  • Some form of sustenance will be provided Friday night at Installfest, likely an assortment of finger foods.
  • Saturday morning there will be a light breakfast comprised of fruit, yogurt, pastries, juice, and/or coffee.
  • Saturday afternoon will be an assortment of middle eastern mezze (think 'tapas') such as hummus, falafel, savory phyllo pastries, stuffed grape leaves, tabouleh, etc. Vegan/vegetarian/dairy-free/gluten-free dietary needs will be accounted for.
