This is a Ruby on Rails event. The focus will be on developing web apps and programming in Ruby. You can find all the curriculum materials at docs.railsbridge.org.
RailsBridge is mixing it up with its first Testfest! Come learn how important tests are in the software world by fixing broken tests while learning about new application programming interfaces (APIs).
In this workshop, we'll take you through the process of fixing broken tests in the Message Board application, which is part of the RailsBridge curriculum. We have built the Message Board application for you so that you can focus on the tests. By the end of the day, you'll have an understanding of how tests work, how APIs can be used to make an application more powerful and functional, and how Rails apps are structured.
We'll meet up Friday to install all of the software needed. On Saturday morning, we will review the base application you'll be using (that we've built for you) and form teams (with TAs on every team for additional guidance). Then, we'll spend the day fixing tests and exploring new APIs such as those of Twilio, Bitly, and Cloudinary!
This workshop is intended to reach out to women, people of color, and the transgender community with some programming experience and interest in learning about testing and APIs with Ruby on Rails! If you are a man, you're welcome to attend as the +1 of a woman, person of color, or a transgender person attending.
App Academy is sponsoring the venue and the food. App Academy is a software development bootcamp; learn more here: https://www.appacademy.io/
