Workshop Description

RailsBridge is a weekend workshop geared towards introducing women to Ruby on Rails in a safe and welcoming environment. RailsBridge is emphatically queer, non-binary, and trans friendly.

In this workshop, we'll take you through building a complete web application using Ruby on Rails. By the end of the day, you'll have an application that connects to a database and reads and writes information.

PLEASE NOTE: Installfest is required for participation in this workshop. We'll meet up on Friday to install all of the software you need, and then spend Saturday learning and writing code. Programmers of all skill levels are welcome. We will have different classes separated by experience level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced).

Speaker

Have you had some serious thought about attending a code school but not sure how to make your finances work? Jacquette Timmons will be at this workshop afterparty to answer those questions and help you think about a plan to help you make your financial goals possible.

Jacquette M. Timmons focuses on the human side of money. She works as a financial behaviorist and is committed to getting you to see that you don't manage money - you manage your choices around money. She's the author of "Financial Intimacy: How to Create a Healthy Relationship with Your Money and Your Mate" and the creator of The Comfort Circle™ dinner series, where she hosts discussions about money, business and life over food and wine. When she's not providing behavioral-based financial coaching, she's traveling the country for speaking engagements to talk about the intersection of emotions and money. Her work has been featured on SiriusXM, "Good Morning America," Oprah.com, CNN, HLN, FOX, Black Enterprise, NPR, Reuters.com, Wall Street Journal and Family Circle.

Jacquette has an MBA in finance from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Business and an undergrad in marketing from the Fashion Institute of Technology. A combination she credits, in part, for being able to blend her analytical mind and creative spirit in service to helping her clients shift how they look at money; how they perceive its role in their life; and how they determine which choices are the best ones to make in support of their goals -- and life. She lives in Brooklyn, NY and can be seen running in Prospect Park most days of the week.
