NOTICE

Something is wrong with the Bridge Troll app. People are reporting they are not able to sign up.
Try opening an Incognito window in Chrome and trying again.
If that doesn't work email [email protected] and we can get you added.

Workshop Description

This workshop is intended to reach out to women, people of color and LGBTQ/Nonbinary people who are interested in learning Ruby on Rails. Students who do not identify as a member of these groups are welcome to attend as a guest (+1) of an attendee who does. RailsBridge is emphatically queer and trans-friendly.
In this workshop, we'll take you through the process of building a complete web application using Ruby on Rails. By the end of the day, you'll have an application that connects to a database, reads and writes data, and renders HTML in a browser.

We'll meet up Friday to install all of the software needed, and then spend Saturday learning and writing code. Programmers of all skill levels are welcome and students will be separated into different classes based on the experience level they choose when signing up.

Sponsors

Big thanks to Instacart for hosting & sponsoring this workshop!

Who is This Event For?

Total programming novices, web designers, system administrators, and developers of other languages are welcome to attend.

Transportation and Parking

The Embarcadero BART Station is 1/2 block away. That is your best bet. If you are driving, there is limited street parking (might be easier on Saturday). There are also garages nearby that may or may not be open on Saturdays.
We have a bike room, though expect a bit of a delay getting your bike in and out of it. It's on the side of the building and we'll need to call someone with an access card for entry. The building doesn't allow bikes in the elevators.

Food and Drinks

Instacart will be sponsoring food and drinks.
Friday night: Pizza (what did you expect, this is a tech meetup. It's basically illegal in SF to provide anything else)
Saturday morning: Muffins, bagels, and coffee.
Saturday lunch: Taco bar!

Wine Down

We'll close out the event with a small happy hour in the office.
