Workshop Description

This workshop is intended to reach out to all who are interested in learning Ruby on Rails.

In this workshop, we'll take you through building a complete web application using Ruby on Rails. Depending on your class level, you will have developed an application on the internet that connects to a database and reads and writes information. We'll meet up on Friday to install all of the software you need, and then spend Saturday learning and writing code.

Total programming novices, system administrators, developers in other languages, and folks who attended our previous workshops are all welcome. We'll have different classes separated by experience level. Each participant needs to bring her own laptop and power supply.

When you RSVP you'll be asked a few question about your operating system, level and type of programming experience.

If you have questions or ideas for us, the best way to get in touch is to email the organizers: [email protected] or [email protected]

Teacher Training

We'll be holding a teacher training on friday night for teachers, TAs and volunteers. It will start a bit earlier than installfest and over lap slightly. We'll be going over ideas on how to keep your class interested, organized and all moving in the same direction. It's great if you're new to teaching or TAing. If you've been to a few Railsbridges already you're more than welcome to share what works with new teachers. You might even pick up a few new tricks

Transportation and Parking

Tapjoys's office is located in downtown San Francisco, on Sutter St one block from the Montgomery Street BART/MUNI stations.

If you're driving, there are several parking garages in the area as well as metered street parking (Downtown SF isn't the most fun place to find parking).
Two close garages are located at :
444 Stockton St
223 Sutter St

Bikes are not allowed in the building and there is very limited bike parking (i.e. parking meters) outside.

Food and Drinks

We'll have pizza Friday night during the install fest and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Vegetarian options will be available.

Childcare

Unfortunately we won't be able to offer childcare at this event.

Afterparty

We will have provide the chance to have a drink and socialize after the workshop at a bar nearby! Details TBD.
